The Biology department finished Unit 1: Cell Structure and Functions at the beginning of October. Because it was Cancer Awareness month, our students created a project where they applied what they learned about cells, and cell division to the reality of how cancer and chronic diseases affect families and communities. During this unit, students learned about cell types, and cell organelles and their specific processes that maintain homeostasis within a cell. As part of the project we partnered with Texas Oncology to collect items our local cancer patients need while going through treatment. We challenged our students to donate one item for our local cancer patients or write a card with words of encouragement. We received overwhelming support from our students and families. Texas Oncology truly appreciates the outpouring of generosity displayed by the students and their families.
The Biology department challenges you to do something nice for your community.
